Egg Sandwich with Honey Vinaigrette Drizzle

Confession: I am a cooking show junkie. I can watch cooking shows till kingdom come. It just never gets boring…well, for me atleast :)). One of the most common things I see on Chopped is the use of vinaigrettes especially on Salads and stuff. Because I have no culinary training, I always turn to Uncle Google to break things down for me. Turns out it is not something complicated and can be made from nearly anything.

I love sweet and sour anything. So I made my vinaigrette using honey, apple cider vinegar and some oil to capture one of my favorite flavors. I was rushing somewhere and decided to make a sandwich to have on the go. After quickly taking my photos, I downded these sandwiches and boy, didn’t they just hit the right spots!!! If you are always on the go, or are going through one of those lazy days, this one is for you :)).

Creamy Honey Uji

In high school, Saturday morning breakfast was uji. Yes, uji for saturday. In as much as you don’t really wanna have some, you have no option, so you fill your tummy  with some. Not that I hate it, i just found it bland since it was maize flour porridge and I am used to sorghum porrige. The later is richer in flavor, has more nutritional content compared to the former.

The first time I tried making uji, I made ugali instead. The second time I made uji, it was too light. #DoubleFail. I knew that I had to balance my water/flour ration coz that was where the problem lay each time. Once I got that balance right, I began experimenting with ways to make this phenomenal dish even better. Healthy does not have to be boring.

Are you ready for this? :))

Potato and Pepper Breakfast Saute

My Papa like s having a full meal for breakfast. It not only keeps him fuller for longer but is also healthier. On certain specific weekdays my mum usually makes for him unskinned potatoes and coleslaw with pineapple or raisin, and maybe a cup of tea afterwards. #LuhyasWillBeLuhyas LOL

I also tend to get very hungry soon after having my breakfast. And the more of a full meal I eat in the morning, the more energy I will have to power me through the first hours of the day. I decided to make  what mum makes for daddy in the morning abit more exciting with flavors I know go very well with potatoes. If you are looking for a hearty filling breakfast, you are in the right place :))

coffee crepes with nutty yogurt cream

What better way to be woken up than to the sweet aroma of something delicious cooking!? And nothing won’t ever get me out of bed faster than the aroma of something good cooking. I like giving myself a break from always being the one cooking. Luckily in our home everyone likes cooking. So in the morning, I like treating myself to the delicious things my mummy and sisters make for us.

My elder sister Sieva likes making crepes for breakfast. My eldest sister, Cheredi, once added freshly grated coconut to hers sometime back and they were great. I decided to add my own twist to the same and in the process made what the gods would eat for breakfast. This was that good! I was abit anxious about how it would turn out but was pleased when it came out great. Want to start your day on the right foot? This is how :))

Tangerine and Sesame Seed French Toast

I have always loved my french toast. I have plenty of memories attached to this dish. And that’s what will always make it special to me. Besides that, I love french toast because it is easy to make and you can make it in a million different ways.

I stumbled upon Girl and Apron while I was making my photo own submissions to Food Gawker and I loved her blog the instant I checked it out. Her recipes are simple and we happen to even use the same theme LOL. I guess great minds really do thing alike! She made these french toast with some almonds and oranges. I thought I could recreate the same with what I had at hand. I decided to make tangerine and sesame seed french toast. This was G.O.O.D.

Avocado and Sesame Seed Milky Omelette

Absolutely nothing in this world feels as energizing as beginning a day full of energy and zeal. With optimism and will to conqure the day ahead. And this energy is ony topped by having a power breakfast to take you through the day. And because breakfast if the most important meal of the day, do it big.

For my breakfast dish,  I decided to make an omelette. There are so many ways to make an omelette, such as this other recipe. This recipe was inspired by my memories of Maragoli, where my dad would make omelette with milk for my sisters and I when we were little girls. I added my little twist to this and it was so so great and filling. It so easy too. You must try this out 🙂

Orange Zest Funfetti Pancakes

I get inspiration for my recipes from almost anything, but usually from things that tug my heartstrings. Today’s recipe was inspired by personalities that embody and radiate sunshine and joy. Those are the personalities of my two young cousins Kadesa, 8 and Mudola, 4. They make me so happy and I just love hanging around them. Last time when they came over, I prepared this dish. This time round I made this, though after they had left. I feel these funfetti pancakes fun, warm  and happy feel captures what I feel when I am around these two girls.

I made pancakes last time with raisins and some orange syrup and they were explosively fantastic. This time round, I decided to add funfetti, some freshly squeezed orange juice and a milky syrup. They were so so good. If you loved the raisin pancakes, you will love these funfetti pancakes.
