Rosemary-Orange Sangria

January sunshine is in full swing. The heat is blistering but days are bright. These are the kind of days that makes me feel like having friends over, cooking up a storm and sit under a shade chatting away. Or going for a picnic. Whether you like this heat or not, one thing I am sure we can agree on is that this weather makes everyone ever so deserving of an amazing quenching drink.

My sangria was inspired by this post I viewed on food gawker. Upon doing my research, I noticed that making a sangria depended on ones taste and anything goes as long as it tastes good. That’s a good thing since it leaves so much creative power on our hands and gives us ability to make yummy stuff. It also adds a beautiful fruity spin to the usual glass of wine. For today: my perfect rosemary and orange sangria.

Honey and Cinnamon Pina Colada

Lord knows how long I have been waiting for the sun to come out! After months of grey skies and layers of sweaters, I can finally soak in the sun and wear all those cute dresses that were kept at the back of my closet. With this weather too comes the soft beaconing call of fresh fruits, juicy roasted meats and chilled drinks. And for me, nothing would be more welcome to sooth my dry throat in this September heat than my Honey and Cinnamon Pina Colada.

This is a fresh pina colada made from ingredients you can readily find. One single sip will take you straight to your dream tropical getaway. It is creamy, delicious and deeply refreshing.

Honey, Lemon & Cinnamon Tea

One of the ways I love keeping myself warm is by a nice hot cup of tea. And I am pleased that these days there are so many teas that are in the market, many of which have so many health benefits. I have been really into green tea.  I have noticed that some brands have tea that really does not have the essence of the ingredients they use. That is why I prefer brewing my own the tea at home. #LuhyasWillBeLuhyas

One of the things I learnt from my mom is that the longer and the slower tea brews, the deeper and more distinct the flavor will be. That is the same technique I applied to my honey, lemon and cinnamon tea. Pole pole ndio mwendo! This tea had all the ingredients layered up so well and is the perfect drink to warm you up.

Purple Rain Smoothie

October begins tomorrow and I could not be more excited! One of the things I love about October is all the jacaranda blossoms that beautify my already splendid Nairobi with their intoxicating purple luminescence. The city once again comes alive after the bleak and cold months of July and August. The blossoms fill the air with their fragrant scent as the wind passes through their branches and their dainty bell shaped flowers fall to the ground like purple rain, turning the ground into an enchanted pathway! This beauty inspired today’s smoothie: Purple Rain Smoothie. It is a rich smoothie that is really delicious, great for your skin and your overall health.
